A calm, unhurried introduction to the pottery wheel. Designed for complete beginners who want a quiet, hands-on experience without the rush of a busy class.

With a maximum of 4 people in the studio, you’ll get gentle, step-by-step guidance right by your side. Come on your own or bring a friend.

What you’ll do:

Learn the core wheel basics: posture, hand placement, centring, and shaping clay.

Make 1–2 small pieces on the wheel (a bowl, cup, or small dish).

Choose your favourite piece — we will glaze, fire, and turn it into a durable, food-safe ceramic to keep forever.

What’s included:

90 minutes of guided studio time.

All clay, tools, glazing, and kiln firings.

1 finished, fired piece to take home (ready for pickup in 4 weeks).

A warm, relaxed evening at our Somerset studio. In this 1.5-hour workshop, you’ll hand-build your own ceramic piece and decorate it with colorful underglazes - no prior pottery experience needed.

We keep our groups small so you can unwind, learn at your own pace, and enjoy a quiet, creative break. Come on your own, bring a friend, or make it a date night.

What’s Included:

  • Welcome drink: A complimentary glass of wine (or tea/coffee) on arrival.

  • 1.5 hours of guided studio time with personal support.

  • All-inclusive: Studio clay, underglaze paints, tools, and 2 kiln firings.

Dates: 20, 27 October & 3, 10 November

This course is for complete beginners and anyone wanting to try wheel-throwing without committing to a long program. You will learn the core skills to turn raw clay into finished, dishwasher- and microwave-safe tableware.

With only 4 people in the studio, you get hands-on support at every step.

What we will do over 4 weeks

  • Week 1: Learning to centre clay and throw fundamental shapes (bowls or small dishes).

  • Week 2: Refining your technique to throw taller cylinders, cups, or simple vases.

  • Week 3: Precision trimming, shaping foot rings, and prepping pieces for their first firing.

  • Week 4: Glazing your ceramics. We finish our last evening together with tea, coffee, and prosecco.

What is included

  • 4 sessions (2 hours each).

  • All clay, tools, glazes, and 2 kiln firings.

  • 3–4 finished pieces to take home.

Booking and policies

  • Payment: Pay in full or choose an installment plan at checkout.

  • Minimum group: We need at least 2 students to run the course. If we don't reach this 7 days before the start date, you will get a full refund or can move to the next cohort.

  • Missed classes: If you miss an evening, the tutor will help you catch up at your next session. If a wheel happens to be free in another group, you can join them to make up the time.
