What to Expect
Over 6 relaxed and hands-on evenings, you'll learn the full process of wheel throwing — from your first spin of clay to glazing your finished work.
We’ll guide you step-by-step, and you’ll leave with a collection of pieces made entirely by you.
Week by Week
Week 1: First Touch
• Welcome tour & safety intro
• Learn how to prepare clay (wedging)
• First go on the wheel — centring clay
• Make a cup or tumbler (or both!)
Week 2: Shape & Trim
• Refine wedging
• Learn to trim your first pieces
• Throw something new — maybe a plate?
Focus: confidence & clean forms
Week 3: Footwork & Form
• Practice carving footrings
• Trim previous work
• Throw a new form — like a tea bowl
Focus: balance & finesse
Week 4: Add Function
• Throw a bowl or mug
• Learn how to pull and attach handles
Focus: making practical, usable pieces
Week 5: Grow & Decorate
• Try taller shapes — vases, cylinders
• Add surface textures and patterns
Focus: structure + self-expression
Week 6: Glaze & Celebrate
• Choose your glazes and paint your bisque pieces
• Studio celebration with tea, bubbles & snacks
Focus: finishing strong — and enjoying the moment
